College Group Service Project
The College group that meets on Thursday nights recently did a service project at the Rose Marie Bryan Children’s Center. Concerning the college group, their project and some other upcoming opportunities Alex wrote:
We had about six people out there, and although we were there before any of the tools or people who would tell us what to do we had a great time. We picked up a ton of trash, painted a huge cement deck behind the building, and pulled down the all the barbed wire around the entire property. There was also a group there from First Baptist doing a ton of yard work. All told I think we got a lot done for a really cool little inner city (Daytona! haha) after school center. I think everyone who came had a good time and we will definitely look for more opportunities to do stuff like this on a regular basis.
As far as our Thursday night study is going we are still in Jonah, chapter three now, looking at the amazing conversion of the entire city of Nineveh by one lousy self-obsessed prophet and what that means for us. Last week we looked at chapter 3:1-5, where Jonah obeys the LORD, goes to Nineveh, and converts the whole city with what may be the worst sermon ever preached. That this could happen is a pure display of grace.
Rose Marie Bryan Children’s Center is at 625 South Street Daytona Beach, just down the street from Turie T. Small Elementary. The Children’s Center offers programs and services that foster the intellectual, social, physical, and emotional development of children, especially children from low income families in Daytona Beach. Please make a note that Christ Community is also going to be teaming up with Chick-fil-A on Wednesday June 11th for a fundraiser to support the Rose Marie Bryan Children’s Center. The fundraiser will run from 6-8 pm. 10% of the net sales will go to support the children’s center. Games, prizes, face painting, and your picture with the Cow will make this a fun family event as well as a way to serve the community. Follow this link for more information.

That was a fun day and we got a lot done! The lady on the left is Miss. Janet who is the director of the center. The coolest part is she went to the center when she was a little girl and now she runs it! That shows that they must truly care about the children in the neighborhood.
